Portrait of a Graduate

Yesterday’s student was prepared by schools to succeed in the industrial age. Today’s student enters a dynamic, technologically connected, and service-oriented workplace with civic responsibility spanning local and global perspectives. To find 21st century success, we are shifting our focus.

The School District of Shullsburg has fully embraced a vision for student success and well being, referred to as "Portrait of a Graduate" that seeks to move beyond pushing students to attain certain grades or academic milestones and focus on setting students up for success in their pursuits after high school. In December 2023, educators, parents, students, and community members began a journey of framing a new vision for our school system- defining what skills, traits and abilities that our students must possess to succeed in the 21st century. Shullsburg Schools created a portrait of a graduate that defines what every graduate should know and be able to do upon graduation. The district will focus on this graduate portrait from Pre-K to graduation to ensure each student has the skills to succeed.
